Advocacy
This evening offered in person at Durham College(JW201) and online(Zoom) is dedicated to assisting attendees with enhancing their advocacy skills in both Courts and Tribunals pursuant to By-law 11 of the Law Society of Ontario and the Paralegal Rules of Conduct in both the Pre-Hearing and Hearing stages of a proceeding.
Attendees will be taught how to speak clearly and concisely emphasizing proper courtroom etiquette, acceptable conduct in and out of the court, with a focus on the examination in chief, cross examination and substantive concepts of submissions. Further focus will center on duties of licensees and advocacy pursuant to Rules 4 and 7 of the Paralegal Rules of Conduct including contact/non-contact with witnesses at relevant stages through the process.
Attendees will discuss the importance and practicality of courtesy to opposing counsel, duty to the client, duty to the court, communication with witnesses and how to effectively deal with self represented parties.
This program contains 3 LSO Professionalism Hours.
