Session 1: Monday, January 29, 2018

Advocacy Basics: The Nuts and Bolts of Local, State and Federal Legislatures

Location: Howard Community College, Rouse Building - RCF 400

Confirmed Speaker: Carole Conors, Vice President, League of Women Voters of Howard County

Educated and informed voters are the key to our democracy. In an effort to foster civic engagement and provide needed information to voters, the League of Women Voters works to educate voters about candidates in thousands of federal, state and local races each year.

This discussion, hosted by the League of Women Voters, Howard County, will include an overview of federal, state, and local government’s roles and responsibilities, the demographics of voters in Howard County, and current legislative issues.

Attendees will have an opportunity to register to vote onsite. Registration required. This session is open to Howard County residents over the age of 16. Limited child care is available. Please inquire when registering.

Effectively Engaging with Your Elected Officials: Legislator Panel Discussion

Bridging the Gap Between Advocacy and Education

Location: Howard Community College, Duncal Hall, Kitterman Room - DH100

Howard County School Board members and Educators are invited to discuss the advances in the education system, areas of improvement and ways the community can get involved. Learn more about how to become your child’s best advocate. Panelists will address issues affecting our community that directly impact the education system, preparing for your child’s annual IEP review meeting, and special education conflict resolution. This session is free and open to Howard County residents of all ages. Registration required.

Session 4: Monday, April 9, 2018

How Parents and Providers Can Work Together for Your Child’s Healthcare Needs: Healthcare Provider Panel Discussion

Location: Howard Community College, Duncal Hall, Kitterman Room - DH100

Learn tips and tools for creating positive working relationships between families and your health care team. Suggestions on what to do if you’re having difficulty accessing health care services will be offered. This session is free and open to Howard County residents of all ages. Registration required.
