Event description

Description

Join the Network for Youth Success policy team to learn how local, state, and federal policies impact program quality and availability, and how you can advocate for change with your legislators and through the media!

This training is open to all afterschool, summer, and expanded learning program staff, from front-line to executive directors. All participants of this training will leave with the knowledge of how to advocate for increased investments in afterschool, summer, and other expanded learning program funding to support high quality programming.

During this training, Network for Youth Success staff will:

  • Provide attendees with an overview of the publicly funded afterschool, summer, and expanded learning programs in New York State and outline the steps of the New York State budget and legislative process.
  • Facilitate a discussion about the challenges providers are facing in the Herkimer-Oneida area as it pertains to current funding opportunities and regulatory issues.
  • Provide toolkits and resources for attendees to engage and empower parents, students, and others around advocacy efforts.
  • Close the training with an overview of key messaging used around afterschool, summer, and expanded learning so you can communicate the benefits and needs of your programs with local media outlets and your elected officials.
