Advocacy 101: Promoting High-Quality Afterschool and Summer Opportunities
Advocacy is an important piece of afterschool and summer program sustainability. All staff, from front-line to executive directors, should understand how they can begin advocating for increased investments and higher quality programs from their elected officials. Join the Network for Youth Success on December 15, 2016 from 10:00am – 12:00pm to learn how local, state, and federal policies impact program quality and availability, and how you can advocate for change with your legislators and through the media.
During this training, Network for Youth Success staff will:
- Provide attendees with an overview of the publicly funded afterschool, summer, and expanded learning programs in New York State and outline the steps of the New York State budget and legislative process.
- Facilitate a discussion about the challenges providers are facing in the New York City area as it pertains to current funding opportunities and regulatory issues.
- Close the training with an overview of key messaging used around afterschool, summer, and expanded learning so you can communicate the benefits and needs of your programs with local media outlets and your elected officials.
The training will take place on December 15, 2016 from 10:00am – 12:00pm at the Partnership for After School Education (PASE).
