Titian & the Venetian Renaissance

Tiziano Vecellio (1488-1576), known in English as Titian, was an Italian Renaissance painter from Venice who became the official painter of the Venetian Republic. During the period that is now referred to as the High Renaissance, Titian was acknowledged as the master painter in Venice. Prominent Venetian painters such as Gentile Bellini (1429-1507) and Giovanni Bellini (1430-1516) trained Titian during his early years and he absorbed much about his use of color and technique from his relationship with Giorgione (1478-1510). His work is characterized by pure colors and idealized beauty in nature and humans. Join Dr. Festa for an exploration of the works of this remarkable artist.
