Advent Lessons and Carols
By Trinity Episcopal, Staunton
Overview
Always well attended, this service strives to recapture the longing and hope of Advent. This is a free concert.
Come experience the timeless beauty of the Lessons and Carols service, a tradition that Episcopal and Anglican churches have shared for almost 150 years to welcome the Season of Advent. This poignant candlelit liturgy opens with the ancient Matin Responsory. From there, the service unfolds as scripture and carols alternate to tell the sacred story of the prophecy and birth of Jesus. Trinity Choirs will perform pieces by renowned composers, including James MacMillan, Janette Fishell, William Byrd, and Cecilia MacDowall. After the service, everyone is invited to a reception in McCracken Hall.
