On this, the second Sunday of Advent, our nation awaits the start of a new Presidency. In this time of fear and uncertainty, scripture speaks of a God "who executes justice for the oppressed; who gives food to the hungry. The LORD sets the prisoners free; the LORD opens the eyes of the blind. The LORD lifts up those who are bowed down; the LORD loves the righteous. The LORD watches over the strangers; he upholds the orphan and the widow, but the way of the wicked he brings to ruin.
In these stories, we can see a vision of healing and justice - a message which has been handed down from the earliest Christians.
Outside, the days grow shorter and darkness gathers reflecting our fears for the future. Inside, we start each service in Advent by lighting a new candle until on Christmas all of the candles on our Advent Wreath are lighted.
