Advancing Youth Development Reimagined: Working Group
Event Information
About this Event
UDC 4-H is pleased to invite you to an upcoming working group, Advancing Youth Development Reimagined: Engaging Young People in Political Conversations.
A lot has happened since the onset of the current pandemic. Our daily lives changed as we lost millions to COVID-19, witnessed countless accounts of police brutality and racial injustice, and experienced civil unrest as the United States underwent a nerve-racking election. As positive youth development advocates, we must strive to recognize, affirm, and incorporate the many strengths that young people possess to bring about change.
We invite youth, youth workers, youth development professionals, parents, stakeholders, and all individuals who interact with young people frequently to join us as we take a deeper dive into youth development principles and best practices for engaging young people in important, political conversations. Join us as we reimagine our work, our communities, and our world from an AYD perspective.
Advancing Youth Development (AYD) is a national training program and professional development curriculum that is well established in the District, having been previously implemented by the National Training Institute for Community Youth Work and the DC Trust Corporation to further the network of committed professionals that provide quality programming for our children and youth in the District.
Your input is valuable and essential to our work as we continue to support, strengthen and sustain positive youth development efforts. Please join us on Wednesday, March 3, from 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm to share your knowledge, suggestions, stories, concerns, and critiques as we discuss the following topics:
- The "New Normal" for Youth Development
- The Youth Development Framework
- Culture Assumptions & Adultism
- Youth-Adult Partnership & Youth Participation
- The Youth Development Continuum
