Share Advances in Throwing: Latest on Injury Treatment and Performance Optimization

Event Details

Join us for a dynamic, one-day conference to learn about the latest tools and techniques for enhancing performance and treating injuries in the throwing athlete. Through a series of panels, presentations and debates, we will discuss a wide range of topics designed to advance injury treatment and optimize performance for throwing athletes focusing on:

Proper biomechanical principles to evaluate the kinetic chain
• Sound treatment for common injuries
• Optimizing training for peak performance

Learning Objectives:

Participants will be able to recall basic anatomy of the shoulder and elbow and recognize important structures and landmarks.

Participants will be able to better execute special tests at the shoulder and elbow.

Participants will be able to differentiate between labral injuries and rotator cuff injuries at the shoulder joint.

Participants will be able to generate specific exercise programs to reduce the risk of throwing injuries with their athletes.

KEYNOTE SPEAKERS

Timothy L. Uhl, PhD, ATC, PT - Dr. Uhl has been practicing physical therapy and athletic training since 1985 in various sports medicine settings. He is currently a Professor in the division of Athletic Training, and the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences at the University of Kentucky. His research and educational focuses are on musculosckeletal evaluation and intervention of the upper extremity and spine as well as teaching evidence based approach and critical appraisal of rehabilitation.

Dr. Stephen Lemos, M.D. - Dr. Lemos leads the Detroit Medical Center Sports Medicine Program and serves as chief of orthopaedic surgery of DMC Surgery Hospital at Madison Heights, Michigan. He holds a fellowship in sports medicine and is also the team physician of both MLB's Detroit Tigers and the NBA's Detroit Pistions.

Joe Hogarty RSCC, ATC - Joe graduated from Bridgewater State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Health and Movement Science/Athletic Training. Joe has been with the Orioles organization since 2004 and he is currently the Strength and Conditioning Coordinator for the Baltimore Orioles and has been in this position for the last 7 years.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

This program is intended for athletic trainers, coaches, physical therapists and physicians. Registration fee includes breakfast and lunch:
• Athletic Trainers / Coaches: $100
• Physical Therapists: $150
• Physicians: $200

Attendees are eligible for seven (7) continuing education units (CEUs) for athletic training and seven (7) contact hours for physical therapists. Please note these 7 contact hours are only approved for Pennsylvania licensed PT's.

Cancellation Policy: A refund of the registration fee will be returned if attendee notifies the event planner by email on or before Friday, January 13, 2017. In case of a snow emergency and the need to cancel the symposium attendees will be notified 24 hours in advance. All registrations will then be automatically transferred to the rescheduled symposium date.
