Summary: This sixteen hour course will take place over two days (9/22/18 and 9/23/18) and will expand upon the previous skills in order to produce a small wooden table.

 

Description: This sixteen hour course will take place over two days and will expand upon the previous skills in order to produce a small wooden table. Students will fabricate all components of the table using previously covered techniques, Techniques covered include, but are not limited to, the design process, scale drawings, milling, dovetails, mortise and tenon, edge gluing, claming strategies, and ripping on the bandsaw.

All introductory courses are prerequisites for this course.  The class will take place at an off-site woodshop and details will be provided closer to the class date. Students are encouraged to bring their lunch. Wood and tools will be available, though it is strongly suggested that you invest in your own set of tools, and you will take home a hand made table at the end of class! 



About the Instructor:

Jay Wiggins has been designing and building furniture for 25 years here in Atlanta. After a two and one half year apprenticeship under furniture craftsman Jack Harich, Jay set up shop and continued study under several notable national furniture makers including Tage Frid, Stephen Proctor and Asheville N.C. Master chair maker Brian Boggs. Jay has exhibited nationally and has work in a number of collections both private and public. In 2001, Jay's work was selected as part of a survey of Amerian craft at the turn of the millenium sponserd by the American Craft Mueum in NYC. He began teaching woodworking and furniture design 10 years ago and has had several apprentices who have gone on to become accomplished makers in their own right. This series of classes, through MASS Collective, are the first being offered in his personal shop.

What are the prerequisites for this course?

The two introductory courses, four squaring and Wood Basics as well as Sharpening Chisels, are prerequisites for this course as well as Fundamentals: Hand-cut Dovetails.  Students with demonstrable experience in these fields can contact the organizers in order to jump directly into this course.

Is my registration/ticket transferrable?

Yes, please notify us before ticket sales end about any transfer of puchase.

 

What is the refund policy?

We will refund any ticket requested for any reason up to a week before the course runs, after that point we can only give credit to a future course. If the class cannot run as scheduled, for whatever reason, purchaser will have the option of a full refund or credit towards the makeup course.

Courses must sell a minimum of three tickets to run. If a course cannot sell three tickets, the students who have signed up will have the option to (a) reschedule (b) recieve a full refund or (c) pay an additional fee of $20 to receive a more intimate course with just two students and the instructor. This notification will be issued when ticket sales end, approximately 48 hours before the course.
