About this Event

This (8) hour course is designed to equip attendees with the skills and tools necessary to (1) conduct proactive evidence-based threat assessments of potential violent perpetrators; (2) identify and apply criminal, civil, mental health, administrative, and other threat management strategies; and (3) prevent targeted violence such as active shooter and mass casualty attacks, including ideologically-motivated terrorist attacks, in public spaces, schools and campuses, workplaces, and other confined and populated areas.

Course Objectives:

(1) Attendees will learn a systematic and evidence-based threat assessment methodology to help determine the risk of targeted violence attacks by potential violent perpetrators;

(2) Attendees will be able to identify different threat management strategies to prevent targeted violence, including using criminal statutes, mental health statutes, and civil statutes such as gun violence restraining order statutes (otherwise known as “red flag” laws);

(3) Attendees will be able to select an appropriate threat management strategy based on a specific articulable assessment of the level of risk or level of concern posed by a particular subject of carrying out a targeted violence attack; and

(4) Attendees will attain competence in conducting threat assessments of potential subjects of concern for targeted violence by participating in interactive threat simulations wherein attendees will conduct actual threat assessments of a variety of reality-based threat scenarios from initiation to conclusion while receiving instructor feedback and guidance throughout the training exercises.
