Event description

Description

Join farmer Mike Protas of One Acre Farm and soil health expert Ellen Polishuk of Plant to Profit for an in-depth discussion of best practices for soil health. This field day is intended for commercial farmers with a basic working knowledge of soil science concepts, including the ability to read soil tests. We will begin with a farm tour at 3:30 p.m. at One Acre’s newly purchased 34-acre site in Dickerson, MD. The tour will be followed by a group discussion, touching on such topics as farmer Mike’s experiences with soils and productivity at this new site versus the farm’s previous site in Boyds, MD, the effectiveness of various cover cropping practices, compost tea applications, and rock powder amendments.

Participants are encouraged to participate - bring your questions! The field day concludes with a potluck at 6:00 p.m. Please bring a dish, dessert, or drink to share. Questions? Contact Caroline Selle at caroline@futureharvestcasa.org.
