Description

Following on our successful Ready to Take Root beginner series in 2018, SMADC and University of Maryland Extension are excited to offer an Advanced Small Fruit Production workshop covering blueberries, strawberries. and brambles tailored for experienced growers.


Date: Monday, March 4th, 2019

Time: 1 to 8 PM

Location: SMECO Auditorium, 15035 Burnt Store Road, Hughesville, MD 20637

Dinner and snacks included.


Topics include:

- Site preparation and soil amendments

- Production systems

- General Integrated Pest Management (IPM)

- Weed and Disease Management

- Variety trial research from Delaware, Wye Research and Education Center, and Southern Maryland


Featured speakers include:

- Ben Beale, Dave Myers, Joe Fiola, Mengjun Hu, and Michael Newell from University of Maryland Extension

- Emmalea Ernest from University of Delaware Extension

- Gary Pavlis from Rutgers University and Cooperative Extension of Atlantic County

- More speakers to be confirmed.


Tentative agenda to be release soon.


This is the first of four Advanced Small Fruit workshops scheduled for 2019. The others are tentatively scheduled for mid-May (Small Fruit Field Day), mid-July (Hops Field Day), and October (Advanced Marketing).
