The Siegel JCC, PFLAG Wilmington and WHYY invite you to a pre-screening of the WHYY feature documentary, The Pursuit: 50 Years In The Fight for LGBT Rights, which will premiere on WHYY TV June 23rd, 2016 at 9PM.
The Pursuit reflects on 50 years in the fight for LGBT rights, since protesters gathered in front of Independence Hall in Philadelphia on July 4, 1965 and publicly called for an end to discrimination against homosexuals. In this complex and vibrant picture, LGBT elder activists remember life in the 1960’s, when "gays" were “hidden in plain sight,” vulnerable to arrest, subjected to psychiatric treatment, fired from jobs and publicly shamed. These poignant recollections introduce four contemporary of portraits of LGBT life which explore what it is like to today to grow up, to work, to parent and to grow old.
The Pursuit is a collaboration among WHYY, Independence Visitor Center Corporation and Equality Forum. Major support for this project has been provided by The Pew Center for Arts & Heritage, with additional support from The Philadelphia Foundation.
Join us on Thursday June 16th at Siegel JCC for this advanced screening.
