Advanced Photography Class (SF)
San Francisco, CA
This is a "next level" class for students who've already taken our Beginner's Photography Class, and continues where the first class left off. In this class you'll learn to use even more capabilities of your DSLR, ask questions about problems you've encountered in the field, and understand the creative rules that make your photos look more professional.
We'll start by taking a deep dive into exposure, auto-focus and depth of field, things we touched on during our first class but can be applied in many more ways. You'll learn to use the correct White Balance settings under different lighting conditions and understand how to remove ugly color casts from your photos.
We'll discuss the different file formats available to DSLR users (RAW and JPEG), and explain the benefits and use cases for each one. Then we do a full walkthrough and review of post-processing and workflow tools, including Adobes Photoshop and Lightroom, and Apple's Aperture and iPhoto. You'll learn the merits and drawbacks of each one, and you'll hear our recommendations for what to use when.
PLEASE BRING IN ONE PHOTOGRAPH YOU SHOT RECENTLY.
Besides technique, we also spend a significant amount of time discussing the artistic side of photography. We explain the many different composition rules, which help make your photos look less "touristy" and more "fine artsy". And finally, we discuss how to enhance color saturation using in-camera filters and various considerations that make your photos "pop!"
In addition to all of this, you'll get to ask any questions you may have since taking our last class. We recommend getting at least 2-3 weeks of practice with your DSLR before enrolling for this class, so you have a list of questions or scenarios that need further explanation.
Each class is limited to a maximum of 20 students.
Prerequisite: Before taking this class, you must have taken our Beginner's Photography Class. This is to ensure that everyone in the class has the same foundation of knowledge and no one gets left behind.
