This is a TWO day training. Attendance for both September 8th and September 15th are required to receive a certificate. Both days start at 8:30 am and end at 4:00 pm.



Overview

This Advanced Motivational Interviewing workshop is an important part of contemporary workforce development and is designed to increase providers’ capacity to deliver evidence based practices and operate from a collaborative perspective.

This two-day advanced training for individuals who have attended an Introductory MI course. This training will build upon foundational skills and introduce more advanced MI techniques. Participants will have a number of opportunities for practice skills development through the use of real-plays, and interactive group exercises.

Learning Objectives

Participants in this course will:


  • Using the MI Framework of Engaging, Focusing, Eliciting and Planning to guide practice;

  • Practice using the foundational skills of MI to enhance motivation, develop discrepancies and manage sustain talk and discord;

  • Gain an understanding of the directive nature of MI;

  • Learn and practice strategies for recognizing, evoking and responding to change talk;

  • Explore how Motivational Interviewing fits in the work environment;

About the Trainer

David Jefferson has been an MI trainer for 7 years and has providing a wide range of trainings in the Northwest and Pacific Islands. He has been in the field of Behavioral Health since 1989. His work includes; Community Health Development, Care Management, Motivational Interviewing, Screening, Brief Intervention and Referral to Treatment, and Health Care Reform. He is a former trainer for the Northwest ATTC, Youth Treatment Project Manager for the Washington DBHR. David is a MINT graduate and seasoned MI trainer. Currently works full time for Skagit County Public Health.
