Every Milk Street meal follows our cooking theory: a belief in how ingredients and techniques work together to create vibrant flavor. In this class, you’ll develop to a deeper understanding of cooking by learning and practicing this theory. We'll start with a tasting experiment to illustrate the flavors and textures that form the foundation of our cooking theory. We'll tease out the individual elements of great cooking by constructing a perfectly topped tortilla chip. Then we'll experiment at the stoves until we get two recipes just right: Soba Noodles with Asparagus and Miso-Butter and Turkish Meatballs with Lime-Yogurt Sauce.

This is a hands-on cooking class led by Milk Street instructors.


What is the maximum number of students per class?

Different classes have different student/participant caps. Here are general guidelines for maximum student capacity:

  • Hands-on cooking classes: 16
  • Taste of Milk Street: 30
  • Milk Street Sessions: 50
  • Be Our Guest: 16
  • Wine with Stephen Meuse: 20
  • Cooking Demonstations: 40
  • Free monthly tour: 20

What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?

Please note: 177 Milk Street has multiple doors. Ours are the double brown doors, with bowties on them, directly across from 49 India Street.

  • Boston Harbor Garage (known as the Aquarium Garage)
  • 75 State Street


  • Aquarium stop on the Blue Line
  • State Street on Blue and Orange Line
  • Government Center on the Blue and Green Lines

What can/can't I bring/wear to the event?

Please wear close-toed shoes and tie back long hair. You are welcome to bring a phone or camera. 

No pets allowed. 

Is this a demo or hands-on cooking class?

This is a hands-on cooking class.

Should I eat a snack before class?

Yes! In this class we will taste recipes as we cook, but an hour or more may pass before the sampling begins. Near the end of class, we also will share a light dinner of the foods you make during the session.

Are there ID requirements or an age limit to enter the event?

Yes. All students must be 18+ years old. Students 14-17 years old are welcome to participate with an adult guardian or parent. 

Where can I contact the organizer with any questions?

Is my registration/ticket refundable or transferrable?

Yes. Tickets are refundable up to seven days before an event and transferable to another student at any time. Within seven days of the event, we do not offer refunds.

About Milk Street Cooking School

Welcome to Milk Street Cooking School, part classroom, part playground and all kitchen. Join us for classes that will transform your home cooking. Our school offers:

 - Hands-on learning with expert teachers and peers
 - Transformative flavor combinations, techniques and ingredient combinations
 - Practical, relevant skills
 - Encouragement to take risks and make mistakes (It’s the only way we learn!)

All classes take place in our downtown Boston kitchen. Except for occasional child-parent workshops and classes for teens, our classes are for students 18 and older. We are developing more classes for children; stay tuned.

It also is where we record Christopher Kimball’s Milk Street television and radio shows. Milk Street is changing how we cook by searching the world for bold, simple recipes and techniques.
