Description

The primary focus of the Advanced Emergency Medical Technician is to provide basic and limited advanced emergency medical care and transportation for critical and emergent patients who access the emergency medical system. This individual possesses the basic knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care and transportation. Advanced Emergency Medical Technicians function as part of a comprehensive EMS response, under medical oversight. Advanced Emergency Medical Technicians perform interventions with the basic and advanced equipment typically found on an ambulance. The Advanced Emergency Medical Technician is a link from the scene to the emergency health care system.

COURSE INFORMATION

Course Number: Submitted to VDH, pending approval

Class Schedule: This class begins Sep. 3, 2019 and concludes Oct. 30, 2019. Class takes place every Tuesday and Wednesday except Oct. 15 & 16 to facilitate clinical experience time.

Attendance is required at all sessions.

Course Fee: $1300 includes textbook, classroom materials, class shirt.


REQUIREMENTS

  • 18 years of age by the time of course start

  • Licensed or certified EMT with:

    • Current CPR for Healthcare Providers,

    • ICS 100, ICS 200, ICS 700, and ICS 800.

  • A minimum of one year of experience as an EMT is recommended but not required.

    • Bennington Rescue recognizes levels of experience vary based on agency volume. If an external student does not meet the minimum recommendation but has significant call experience, the program director may consider a student with a minimum of two clinical recommendations which must be from a(n):

      • AEMT or paramedic (preferred) the student practices with, and

      • Direct supervisor or agency medical director (preferred)

      • Both recommendations must be submitted prior to or with a program application and prior to the closure of the application process or filling of all course seats, whichever comes first.

  • No criminal convictions or history that would preclude the applicant from licensure or certification.

  • Health requirements, on Bennington Rescue medical forms provided after course registration:

    • Proof of Hepatitis B Vaccine or Letter of Declination.

    • Proof of current immunizations as required for clinical experience in the emergency department (ED) and on the ambulance.

    • Attestation from your primary healthcare provider (physician, nurse practitioner, etc.) stating that student is physically fit for the expectations of the course.

    • Failure to comply with health requirements excludes an individual from this course.

HOW TO APPLY

An application for the AEMT program at Bennington Rescue requires two components:

  1. A completed application, emailed to: training@benningtonrescue.org along with required documentation outlined above (current EMT cards, healthcare provider CPR, ICS certificates, etc.).

  2. Payment of the course fee on Eventbrite
