About this event

This training gives you the skills you need to reach out and provide initial support to someone who may be developing a mental health or substance use problem and help connect them to appropriate care.

First Aiders will complete a 2-hour self-paced online class, then participate in a 6-hour instructor led Zoom Meeting.

The course will teach you how to apply the ALGEE action plan:

  • Assess for risk of suicide or harm.
  • Listen nonjudgmentally.
  • Give reassurance and information.
  • Encourage appropriate professional help.
  • Encourage self-help and other support strategies.

This training is offered by Safe & Sound Hillsborough in partnership with the Children's Board of Hillsborough County. It is FREE and open to the public thanks to a grant provided by Simply Health Foundation.

Mental Health First Aid USA is managed, operated, and disseminated by the National Council for Behavioral Health.

About the organizer

The Hillsborough County Community Violence Prevention Collaborative (VPC or Collaborative) was created in the summer of 2013 as an initiative to transform the way local policy makers address violence. This initiative shifts policy from a public safety to a public health model and aligns community and professional stakeholders to develop a comprehensive prevention and intervention approach.
