Description

Dance is celebration, an act of resistance and a decision of reclamation. Let's take some time out of our week to reclaim our self-expression and our physical bodies with movement!

As we grow up, it's easy to become disconnected to our physical selves - it's easy to get self-conscious, shut down that part of you in favour of your brain. I'd like to help facilitate an opportunity for you to get back to listening to your body.

All this workshop takes is an open mind, and a respect for your own physical capabilities and those of your fellow participants. No previous dance experience is required.

Workshop format:

  • Warmup (includes some light cardio like jumping jacks, push-ups, crunches - modifications can absolutely be made, this workshop is whatever intensity you'd like it to be)
  • Stretches
  • Circle discussion on the workshop, movement and intentions for the workshop
  • Breath work (spread out in the studio)
  • Movement across the floor
  • Partner work (no major contact work)
  • Story-telling or art with movement

What to wear:

  • Comfortable workout gear that lets you move, no socks (preferred to avoid slippage on the floor - or if you have no-slip yoga socks, or something similar, that is okay).

What to bring:

  • Water bottle, notebook if you are a note-taker - paper and pens will be provided if you need.

Free street parking. Go behind Purdy Natural. I will be outside to greet you.
