Embossed Metal Art

Instructor: Sara Moons

Embossed Metal Art

Create embossed metal art with a distressed, vintage look. Unconventional items such as foil tape, sheetrock tape, and nuts and washers from the building store will be transformed into an innovative art technique! Some embellishments will be provided, but participants are encouraged to bring additional low-relief items such as broken/unwanted jewelry, chip board letters, old keys, lace, doilies, etc. to be used in their art. Don't miss this opportunity to learn an exciting, new technique!

All experience levels are welcome. Class size is limited to 16 participants. Educators will receive 3 hours of CPE credit for this workshop. Aside from the additional embellishments as noted above, all required art materials are provided for this workshop.

PLEASE NOTE: Due to ongoing renovation of the museum building, this workshop will NOT be held at the Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Arts. It will be held in Room 309 of the Bentley Education Center at St. Dunstan's Episcopal Church, located at 14301 Stuebner Airline Rd, Houston, TX 77069 (located about 5 minutes from the museum, near the intersection of Stuebner Airline Rd and FM 1960).

About the Artist:

Sara Moons

Sara Moons is an abstract expressionist artist who works in mixed media: primarily oil pastel, watercolor, and acrylic. She teaches a variety of ages and mediums from her home studio, Whimsy Lake, and from the Conroe Art League gallery. Sara is a native Texan, and has lived near the Conroe area for most of her life. She moved to Houston temporarily to attend The Art Institute, where she received a BFA in interior design. Before Sara became a teaching artist, she worked as a designer for a commercial architecture firm.

Sara’s artistic style has evolved over the years into bold, bright, and energetic, and these characteristics are evident in her recent music inspired art series. Sara uses her spontaneous, expressionistic style to interpret her favorite songs visually through the use of color, lines, and shapes. The Conroe Courier has recently turned its attention to Sara’s music inspired series with its recent publication of her large scale painting, titled “Nothing Else Matters” named after a Metallica song. The news article also highlights her work with Freedom Place and The Montgomery County Women’s Shelter, where she teaches expressive art to women, teens, and children who have been rescued from abusive situations. Sara has been involved in several solo and group exhibitions, and was recently selected as a Rising Star of 2018's premiere arts event, Rising Stars and Legends of Texas.
