Event description

Description

This event is free for WESD staff and School Disctrict staff from Marion, Polk, and Yamhill counties. Those from districts or organizations outside of these counties will have a charge of $200 per person. All participants will register through this page and billed by the WESD accordingly.

The Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, Second Edition (ADOS-2) improves an instrument already viewed as "the gold standard" for observational assessment of autism spectrum disorder (ASD). WPS offers 2-day workshops that teach you how to use the ADOS-2 to assess and diagnose autism. Experienced workshop leaders describe the ADOS-2 and demonstrate administration and scoring, operationalizing diagnostic criteria for ASD. You'll have the opportunity to practice scoring while observing the instructor administer the ADOS-2 to a child with ASD. The workshop focuses primarily on Modules 1 through 4. Attendees are given materials to study later in order to complete training in the Toddler Module. This workshop is for professionals unfamiliar with the ADOS-2. Clinicians already trained in the ADOS can update their skills by reviewing the ADOS-2 Manual and completing the ADOS-2 DVD Training Upgrade Package (W-606DVD).

Learning Objectives

Following the course, participants will be able to:

  • Identify the key features of the ADOS-2 approach, including the rationale for the approach and how it enhances autism assessment

  • Describe use of the ADOS-2 for operationalizing diagnostic criteria for autism spectrum disorders

  • Explain how to select the most appropriate ADOS-2 module

  • Identify administration procedures for the ADOS-2

  • Demonstrate a basic understanding of how to apply ADOS-2 codes

  • Demonstrate a basic understanding of how to score ADOS-2 algorithms

  • Identify the basic psychometric support for the ADOS-2

  • Explain issues in the clinical application of ADOS-2 results

CE Certificates

The ADOS-2 workshop represents 12 contact hours of professional continuing education. Visit www.wpspublishing.com/ADOS-2workshop for a list of organizations that have approved WPS as a continuing education provider, and for additional CE-related information.

Parking

Parking is available to participants in the front parking lot located off of Pringle Road. Attendees will enter the main Blue Entrance of the ESD to access the Casalegno Room.

Meals

Light refreshments will be provided in the morning and afternoon, including water and coffee. Attendees are welcome to access the ESD’s Clark Café (open from 8:00 am – 1:00 pm) for a small selection of pay-as-you-eat selections. Participants are welcome to enjoy their own lunch (brought from home, purchased and brought back to WESD, etc) in the Café, as well.

We will set up a group order with Little Lois Café, which provides box lunches or chef salads for delivery. Lunches will be paid for individually by attendees. Ordering instructions will be mailed to each participant.
