About this event
Adoption Workshop: Parenting an Infant Exposed to Substances
Wednesday, June 30, 6:30 - 8:30 p.m.
The speakers for this workshop are Amy Sommer and Danya Handelsman, who work with substance-exposed newborns and their families as part of JF&CS’s Project NESST®. NESST is an acronym for “Newborns Exposed to Substances: Support and Therapy.”
Project NESST staff, who are all master’s-level clinicians with post-master’s training in Infant-Parent Mental Health, have had the benefit of receiving and delivering a wealth of training on the impacts of substance use on the family, the infant, and growing children.
Topics they will cover in the workshop include:
- Follow-up questions to the presentation on medical risk related to substance use disorder (SUD)
- How adoptive parents can best support infants who have been impacted by SUD
- Specific strategies and supports that NESST staff offer to adoptive families
- Opportunities to seek individual consultation and support from NESST staff
When: Wednesday, June 30, 2021
Time: 6:30 - 8:30 p.m.
Where: Online, via Zoom video conferencing
Cost: $25 per adoptive family
