Event Overview

The 2SLGBTQ+ Collaborative of Peel region formally invites you to attend our second annual 2SLGBTQ+ Inclusion Leadership Dialogue for service providers and community members in Peel titled, Adjusting the Lens II: Focusing in on Queer and Trans Communities in Peel.

Service organizations have been collaborating in Peel to stand up for marginalized communities and provide leadership on various social justice and human rights issues. In 2017, the 2SLGBTQ+ Collaborative of Peel was formed to address the non-profit sectorial gaps in order to improve inclusion in workplaces and encourage compassionate service provision for diverse 2SLGBTQ+ communities.

Adjusting the Lens II is a space for critical and productive dialogues to take place concerning 2SLGBTQ+ inclusion and capacity building in Peel. We are building upon the success of Adjusting the Lens I to encourage service providers to: Promote social inclusion within their service organizations; promote meaningful interventions; improve the capacity of organizations to serve 2SLGBTQ+ folks; pull the veil down on Peel’s first 2SLGBTQ+ virtual hub “Rainbow Salad”; build a better understanding about diverse 2SLGBTQ+ lived experiences; build a better understanding about organizational needs and barriers; strategize allyship and renew commitment to 2SLGBTQ+ inclusion.

Come join us this year for Adjusting the Lens II. You are paving the road to a more inclusive and accessible Peel region.

SAFER SPACE POLICY

The 2SLGBTQ+ Collaborative of Peel collectively strives to create spaces that are free of as many barriers as possible as a means of working towards liberation. This means that we are all responsible for creating the spaces we desire, by educating ourselves, each other and ensuring that we are continually engaging in these conversations and creating relationships of support and collective responsibility. While we recognize that no space is exclusively “safe” for anyone, we must collectively work towards mitigating harms.

The 2SLGBTQ+ Collaborative of Peel works towards recognizing dynamics of power and privilege that exist within society and which have historically oppressed 2SLGBTQ+ communities. We believe that these same dynamics and tensions exist within our own communities and we are working continuously towards addressing these tensions and creating supportive spaces. Folks participating in our events are asked to be aware of their language and behaviour and to think about whether these may be harming others. Our spaces are not spaces for explicit or implicit violence, racism, sexism, ageism, transphobia, cissexism, sizeism, fatphobia, sexual harassment, and gender policing, or doing anything to another person without their consent. Acting in a way that disrespects, harms others or undermines these values will not be tolerated at any time. The 2SLGBTQ+ Collaborative of Peel reserves the right to assess and manage circumstances and situations in the best interest of our collective vision towards creating ‘liberation’ and ‘safer’ spaces.
