Description

Chris Guarino - Addressing the Melancholy

Opening Reception with the Artist
Saturday, October 21st 7-9pm

Local Austin-based artist Chris Guarino creates original cast resin sculptures augmented with found objects and mixed media elements. The work in "Addressing the Melancholy" is an attempt to process feelings of loss, emptiness, and pain. Only by confronting the source of our suffering directly can it be accepted and understood. These sculptures chronicle the artist’s journey from pain to acceptance, and embody the transformative effect of the creative process.

Statement from the Artist:
“Dealing with loss is something we all must do. My suffering is no greater than anyone else's - the only thing that makes it special or unique is the fact that it is mine. I have chosen to face the emptiness I have been left with, and try to understand it. One piece in particular, I have had for years. It has never been shown in any public exhibit, and was always a deeply personal piece, but there comes a time when we all must move on. If anything unites these pieces, it is my struggle to take my experiences from the last two years and make something positive from them.”

This exhibition will be on display through Friday, November 17th
