Description

Addressing Gang Violence: Building and Maintaining a successful Police Response

If you or your agency is looking to develop or enhance their response to gang violence and gang crime, or wanting to build an informal or formal gang task force, or build a full-time gang unit, APB’s Addressing Gang Violence course will teach you what to do and how to do it! Our highly experienced instructors will teach you their specialized tactics and methodologies which are based on many years of specialized training, decades of first-hand gang investigation experience in developing effective cases, anti-gang operations, working through obstacles, and building strategic partnerships.

Students will learn about working with, and creating gang task forces, officially and unofficially. The Addressing Gang Violence training course provides LEO’s and agencies with the tools and strategies needed to get the job done right! Whether working with a notepad and pen or a full complement of resources, this course is designed to fit every officer and agencies of all sizes, including School Resource Officers who wish to enahnce their knowledge of how gangs can impact children in our schools.

Course Content:

  • Identifying the scope and activities of gangs in your jurisdiction or school district: Gang Assessment System (GAS)
  • Identifying partnerships in the law enforcement community (Synergy Model)
  • Identifying non-law enforcement partnerships in your local community (Synergy Model)
  • Train community partners about gangs; they need to be involved - Enlist, Empower, and Engage
  • Overcoming Obstacles - Enlist, Empower, and Engage
  • Develop a validation process and prosecutorial strategies. Post arrest partnerships are important; measure facts, weigh cases, use experts, and WIN!
  • Designing a unit of one, partnerships, task force, or a full-time unit – It’s about quality, brains, and commitment; not quantity. Dedication (it takes heart)!
  • Officer safety during gang enforcement and investigation

    Date: September 25th and 26th (Mon/Tues)

    Time: 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM (each day)

    Registration Fee: $195.00 payable to APB (3984 Mooncoin Way, Lexington, KY 40515)

    Host hotels: Embassy Suites (Newtown Pike), Marriot Griffin Gate (Newtown Pike)

    Instructors: Sergeant Todd Phillips (gang expert) – Todd has been working gang investigations and operations for almost two decades. His experience ranges from being his agencies first gang officer, to building their first gang unit. Todd provides proven successful methods that work on the street, within agencies and partnerships and in court. His strategies and tactics have a long track record of effectiveness and can be applied in any jurisdiction.

    Detective Keith Ford (narcotics expert) – Keith has 25 years of experience in working narcotics investigations. He has conducted investigations that range from lower level drug users and mid-level gang members to cartel-level drug trafficking organizations. Keith has extensive experience cultivating and utilizing confidential informants in drug and terrorism related cases.

    Detective Robert Terry (gang expert) – Robert has been working gangs successfully for almost two decades. His experience ranges from building gang recruitment cases against gang members to federal level gun cases on violent gangs. Robert’s extensive successes have led him to be a sought-after gang consultant.
