Event description

Description

Mental Health ultimately affects all areas of our life (finances, relationships, education, life satisfaction, etc.). With Wilmington's long legacy of racism and oppression, it is important to address the special factors that have negatively impacted the mental health of people of African descent in this town and beyond. This event will build off of the previous event on "Addressing Black Mental Health in WIlmington, NC" presented in May. This present event will address unique factors that have historically and presently impacted the mental health of black individuals in Wilmington, NC and beyond.

This event will include a special presentation from Makeda Cheryl Baker, RN, MA who has worked in the mental health field for decades as a psychiatric nurse. Makeda has long studied historical racism and how racism impacts us psychologically. She has given countless presentation on how racism/ws impacts us in all areas of life.

The event will take place at the New Hanover County Main Library in the New Hanover Room on the 3rd Floor.

201 Chestnut St. Wilmington, NC 28401
