Description

IMAGE COURTESY OF THE ROYAL SOCIETY

DATE: Tuesday, 8 May 2018

TIME: 16:30-18:00, the event will be followed by a networking drinks reception.

Failing is an integral part of building a research career. By sharing the experiences of senior researcher at different career stages, the ADAPT to Thrive event series showcases how failure and success walk hand in hand. All early and mid-career researchers in SLMS and BEAMS are welcome to attend.

Our aim is to:

  • Normalise speaking out about failure and reduce stigma.
  • Help build a more resilient academic community by facilitating conversations and allowing early and mid-career researchers to find support networks.
  • Shift the perception of risk and encourage early and mid-career researchers to take new approaches to their careers and pursue unconventional ideas.

If it peaks your interest, join us on 8 May for the inaugural ADAPT event with a stellar panel of speakers who will be sharing their experience with failure:

  • Professor Mala Maini, Professor and Honorary Consultant on Viral Immunology & Deputy Head, Department of Immunology, University College London
  • Professor Sir John Tooke, Executive Chairman of Academic Health Solutions and co-chair of CASMI. Former Vice Provost (Health) and Head of the Medical School at UCL and Academic Director of UCL’s Academic Health Science Centre, UCL Partners. Past President of the Academy of Medical Sciences.
  • Professor Uta Frith Hon DBE, Emeritus Professor of Cognitive Development, Institute of Cognitive Neuroscience, University College London

The event will be chaired by Professor Geraint Rees, Dean of the UCL Faculty of Life Sciences.

If you have any questions, please get in touch with Felipe Fouto, Programme Manager at the ACO - f.fouto@ucl.ac.uk
