Join John Pickerill and Courtney Thompson, advertising attorneys in the Advertising, Marketing & Trademark Group at Fredrikson & Byron, and Clark Rector, Executive Vice President of Government Affairs at the American Advertising Federation (AAF), for an AdFed morning program. We will discuss trends, opportunities and traps, and will provide practical solutions so you understand legal issues and can reduce risk.

Our presenters will cover:

Disclosure and enforcement trends in quick content and social media.

New material entering the public domain on January 1, 2019, the first time in 20 years presents significant marketing opportunities and risks.

The impact of government regulations on the advertising industry.

Presenters:

John Pickerill, a Shareholder at Fredrikson & Byron, assists clients with trademark planning, prosecution and enforcement, social media marketing planning and compliance, ad copy and sweepstakes/promotions compliance, industry agreements, dispute resolution, content licensing, and copyright matters. John was an Account Executive at Carmichael Lynch Advertising for 5 years in the mid-90s. He is also a former Board Member of the Advertising Federation of Minnesota and is currently its legal counsel.

Courtney A. H. Thompson, a Senior Associate at Fredrikson & Byron, focuses on trademark, copyright, anti-counterfeiting, licensing, brand management, and commercial agreements. Courtney uses her experience to develop and implement creative intellectual property strategies to address each of her client’s unique needs. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Advertising Federation of Minnesota and is on the Minnesota Film and TV Board.

Clark Rector is the Executive Vice President of Government Affairs for the American Advertising Federation (AAF) headquartered in Washington, D.C. In his role as chief public policy advocate for the Federation, Rector meets with lawmakers and regulators to educate them about advertising and represent the industry’s position on important legislative and regulatory matters. He has testified for the AAF before the U.S. Senate and Federal Trade Commission, as well as numerous state legislatures and city governments.

If you plan to attend this event, we strongly encourage registering at least 48 hours in advance, in order to expedite your arrival experience. Walk-in event attendees should allow for extra time for onsite security registration.

All pre-registered visitors are required to provide a valid government-issued ID to gain entrance to U.S. Bank Plaza. Upon arrival, check in at the security desk inside the North Tower and show them your ID. The security guards will print a guest badge for you to use to enter the turnstiles. Guest badges should be carried with you for the duration of your visit at the building. We recommend allowing extra time for your arrival, should there be any issues with your badge or registration.
