Event description

Description

The Activist Camp is an annual gathering for activists and artists who come together to relax, to share experiences, inspire each other and forge new connections. This year the theme will explore how community culture and art can address social inclusion and combat poverty. The theme feeds into the European Year of Cultural Heritage and the Voices of Culture consultation on Social Inclusion which the European Anti Poverty Network, Blue Drum and CREATE are actively involved.

The programme will have 3 parts: (1) Case studies, (2) Sharing of practice by participants using a show and tell format (10 slides x 15 minutes) and (3) Ideas to sustain the platform through learning opportunities and platform development activities in 2018-2019.

(1) Documentation on 3 case studies will be circulated in advance and form part of a group conversation. These are:

Welfare State Internation https://arestlessart.com/case-studies/welfare-state-international/

Faro Convention Network as networked of local heritage communities for sustainability. https://rm.coe.int/faro-convention-action-plan-handbook-2018-2019/168079029c

Community Culture https://issuu.com/bluedrum/docs/short_review__community_culture_201

(2) Show and Tell presentations is an invitation to each participant or group of participants to bring something tangible from their work as a sign of working to address social inclusion and poverty. The Camp will begin with a creative exercise to assemble the different items into a single form. For presentations a PC / Projector will be made available.

(3) Ideas for the next phase (2018-2019) will involve a creative workshop process in Glendalough environment to explore how we can collectively develop our knowledge and skills in our context. Common Ground, Bray have been invited to talk about alternative forms of currency and time sharing.

A proposal to organise another gathering in Galway is proposed for the autumn.
