**Prerequisite: "Facilitator Training" Required prior to attending this training**

**BOTH days required for certification**

This two day training will certify you as a Certified Model Program Facilitator of "Active Parenting of Teens". After you complete the training you can serve as many families as you have capacity. We provide all start up materials for free.

Anyone who registers MUST be able to commit to the following:

1. Implement the program in Sacramento County within 3 months of being trained

2. Submit Demographics and Evaluation results post program to Omni Youth Programs (forms provided)

Training Description:

You will be trained to be a facilitator of this group program that inculdes interesting dicussions, lively activities and professional videos. The program is flexible in which it can be implemented in one hour sessions or lunch and learns with parents. The outcomes of this evidence based program can be found on SAMHSA and NREPP sites.

Curriculum Topics:
Session 1: The Active Parent-What teens need to succeed, Styles of parenting, Control vs. influence,
Mutual respect, Method of choice
Session 2: Winning Cooperation-Who owns the problem, Cooperation, Communication blocks &
discouragement, Active communication
Session 3: Responsibility & Discipline-Logical consequences, Discipline vs. punishment, Basic an
advanced discipline methods that teach
Session 4: Building Courage, Redirecting Misbehavior-Courage & self-esteem, Turning
discouragement into encouragement, 5 goals of teen behavior, Power struggles
Session 5: Reducing Risks of Drugs, Sexuality & Violence I-Understanding the problem, Strategies to
reduce risks, Teaching positive values & choices, Educating teens about risks, Filtering out negative
influence and positive ones in, Establishing clear guidelines for behavior
Session 6: Reducing Risks of Drugs, Sexuality & Violence II-Prevention strategies, Monitoring and
supervising teens, Working with other parents, Providing healthy opportunities, Resisting peer pressure,
Confronting high risk behavior, and Managing crisis
