The Action Shooting Sports Stage Design Clinic* is targeted at individuals who wish to become more involved in the operation of Action Shooting Sports matches at ASC and want to know what goes into the construction of a good stage.


  • Discuss the different types of stages
  • Discuss designing stages with particular skills in mind
  • Discuss Shoot throughs
  • Discuss how movement effects stage design
  • Discuss the benefits and drawbacks to different target types
  • Discuss differences between Pistol/Rifle/Shotgun stages
  • Discuss the impact of stage design on safety
  • Discuss the responsibilities of a stage designer
  • Discuss balancing the stages of a match
  • Review well written stage procedures and how to deliver them to shooters
  • Discuss scoring methods
  • Review some of the differences in stage design philosophy between USPSA and IDPA
  • Using Sketchup and PowerPoint to diagram stages
  • Create and critique stages created by class participants



* This venue does not allow charging a fee for space. Accordingly, all fees collected will be applied to the cost of materials provided.

Aurora Sportsmen's Club

The Aurora Sportsmen’s Club, Inc. (ASC) has been in operation for more than 65 years and is incorporated as a Not-For-Profit Illinois Corporation dedicated to training, education, conservation and outdoor shooting sports. Although the Club is private, many events and activities are open to the public.  ASC is situated on approximately 280 acres just south of Waterman, Illinois.


Facility tours, orientations and new member processing are scheduled the second Saturdays and fourth Sundays of most months. Additional information on becoming a member of ASC can be found here:


'Action Shooting' is a term that encompasses target shooting events where the shooter's score is based on both accuracy and elapsed time.  Depending on the discipline, various amount of movement may be required and shooters may be required to engage targets from point-blank range up through 600 yards.  Additional information on the Action Shooting Sports program can be found here:
