Synopsis:

There are plenty of examples — Amazon acquired Zappos and McAfee bought TenCube. Acquisition can be a strategic pathway of growth for start-ups.  Small businesses may not naturally see large companies as the innovative, free-spirited environments that start-ups are often defined by.  However, Warren Katz, who brought the firm he co-founded through acquisition as a CEO, understands how they support the entrepreneurial community.

Mr Katz will share his experience of going through an M&A event and his insights on cashflow for small firms.  He will also describe how acquisition has brought international growth and strategic alliances to his business.

Speaker:

Warren Katz co-founded MÄK Technologies in 1990 and acted as COO until December 2006 when MÄK was acquired by VT Systems, at which time Katz became CEO. VT Systems is the US headquarters of ST Engineering Ltd.

Katz is also a mentor for TechStars, a highly-selective, mentorship-driven seed stage investment program in Boston, Boulder, New York City and Seattle.

Katz is a noted industry advocate of open interoperability standards and commercial business models in Department of Defense procurement. Katz also has expertise in the collaboration between the defense and video game industries. He holds two patents on a low-cost eye-tracking device and one patent on a networking protocol for simulated distributed force-feedback.

Katz holds dual bachelor’s degrees in mechanical and electrical engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
