Purpose:  To enhance interpersonal interrelations within our healthcare system, ensuring that medical care and servcies are delivered to the community in a culturally competent manner.

Target Audience:  Physicians, Advanced Practice Registered Nurses, Registered Nurses, Pharmacists, Social Workers and related healthcare professionals who manage and treat patients with acquired brain injury.

By the end of the presentation, participants will:

Understand the basics of brain injury including what a brain injury is, leading causes, the incidence and prevalence, and what populations are at greatest risk of sustaining a brain injury.

Know the most common physical, cognitive, and behavioral changes that occur as a result of a brain injury; and understand what it takes to recover and return home after sustaining a brain injury.

Be able to apply their knowledge of brain injury to their careers by preventing and identifying brain injuries, and successfully assisting brain injury survivors who may have one or more unmet needs.


Physicians: BorderRAC is accredited by the Texas Medical Association to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

BorderRAC designates this live activity for a maximum of 4.00 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s) TM. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Nursing: BorderRAC is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the Texas Nurses Association – Approver, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

This educational activity has been approved for 4.00 continuing nursing education contact hours. In order to receive credit and certificate of attendance for the program, nurses must arrive on time, sign-in on the attendance form, complete an on-line evaluation, and remain for the entire program.

Social Workers/LPC’s: BorderRAC is an approved Continuing Education Provider by the Texas State Board of Examiners of Professional Counselors and the Texas State Board of Social Worker Examiners. This program will offer 4.00 SW CEUs and 4.00 LPC contact hours.
