About Our Special Presentation

Business continuity, security and emergency management professionals can benefit from a knowledge and understanding of the causes, warning signs and behavioral dynamics of groups, crowds and mobs that are associated with violent and destructive behavior. Such an understanding better prepares professionals for the new challenges associated with the use of social media (Twitter, Facebook, etc.) and globalization as they relate to the development of civil unrest and the potential of dangerous and violent collective behavior. This updated 60-minute program provides timely, actionable information to better protect their organizations’ personnel and assets in response to potential group, crowd or mob situations.

• Types, scope and prevalence of collective violence

• Defining and distinguishing between groups, crowds and mobs

• The psychology of crowds

• The physics of crowds

• Identifying “flashpoints”

• Pre-incident indicators of violence in groups, crowds and mobs

• The three levels of civil unrest preparedness for organizations

• Personal and team safety in crowds and mobs

• Last-chance survival tactics in violent mob situations

Mr. Crimando is a Certified Threat Manager; a Certified Homeland Protection Professional; and a Board Certified Expert in Traumatic Stress with more than 30-years of frontline experience in emergency management and the behavioral sciences. Mr. Crimando was deployed to the 9/11 and 1993 World Trade Center attacks, as well as New Jersey’s anthrax screening center and other acts of international terrorism. He is trained in Field Force Operations by FEMA and the Center for Domestic Preparedness. He has assisted many jurisdictions and private sector organizations in their preparedness and response to riots and civil unrest. He is a published author who is frequently called upon by the media and the courts as an expert in the prevention and response to mass violence.
