ACM conference on Equity and Access in Algorithms, Mechanisms, and Optimization organized by Mechanism Design for Social Good (MD4SG).

About this event

EAAMO'21 is organized by the Mechanism Design for Social Good (MD4SG) initiative, and builds on the MD4SG technical workshop series and tutorials at conferences including ACM EC, ACM COMPASS, ACM FAccT and WINE.

The conference will feature keynote talks, panels, and contributed presentations across numerous fields. In line with the MD4SG core values of bridging research and practice, the conference will bring together researchers, policy-makers, and practitioners in various government and non-government organizations, community organizations, and industry to build multi-disciplinary pipelines.

Need-Based Registration Waivers and Data Plans

The conference will provide a number of need-based grants to subsidize the costs of registration as well as provide additional financial assistance to procure data plans for attending the conference. Preference will be given to individuals who have submitted papers to the conference. We especially encourage those from underrepresented communities and institutions to submit a financial assistance application. The deadline for applying for registration waivers and data plans is September 10, 2021, 5 PM GMT. Please complete this form if you need financial assistance. Upon approval, you will receive a promo code to register for free on Eventbrite.

Registration is complimentary for civic and public sector practitioners.

A main goal of the conference is to bridge research and practice. Please nominate practitioners working with underserved and disadvantaged communities to join us at the conference (you can also nominate yourself if you are a practitioner). Invited practitioners will be included in facilitated discussions with researchers and will be able to attend the conference free of charge.

Mechanism Design for Social Good (MD4SG) is a multi-institutional initiative using techniques from algorithms, optimization, and mechanism design, along with insights from other disciplines, to improve access to opportunity for historically underserved and disadvantaged communities. MD4SG is a community of researchers, policy-makers, and practitioners in various government and non-government organizations, community organizations, and industry working to foster collaborations across disciplines and build research and practice pipelines.

In 2021, building on the MD4SG technical workshop series and tutorials at conferences including ACM EC, ACM COMPASS, ACM FAccT and WINE, we launched the launched the inaugural ACM conference on Equity and Access in Algorithms, Mechanisms, and Optimization (EAAMO ’21). EAAMO'21aims to highlight work where techniques from algorithms, optimization, and mechanism design, along with insights from the social sciences and humanistic studies, can help improve equity and access to opportunity for historically disadvantaged and underserved communities.
