Event description

Description

Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) are stressful or traumatic experiences, such as abuse, neglect, and family dysfunction that disrupt the safe, stable, nurturing environments that children need to thrive. This training uses some of the latest knowledge about brain development to explain how difficult experiences in childhood can change brain development, responses to stress, health consequences and even early death. The training will also show how factors can positively affect the developing brain.

Learning Objectives:

  • Learn the original 10 types of childhood adversity identified in the ACEs study
  • Understand the differences between positive, tolerable, and toxic stress responses
  • Recognize the interplay between risk and resilience and how to cope with ACE consequences
  • Learn how the mobilization of healthy and stable social networks and interventions can prevent ACE transmission

OmniCare Institute uses certified Building Strong Brains trainers. Building Strong Brains is an initiative of the State of Tennessee.

Our Trainer:

Chris Moynihan, LCSW is the Director of Clinical Services and Training for Foster Care at Omni Visions. Moynihan, a licensed social worker who has worked with at-risk children and as a private counselor for many years, was formerly the Clinical Director at Genesis Learning Centers. During his time at Genesis, Moynihan transformed their treatment practices by incorporating trauma-informed practices into a special day school setting for children with unique or challenging behavioral needs. His goal is to help the leaders and managers of other social services organizations learn to navigate the often complex world of child welfare, mental health, and educational systems. Thanks to his clinical background including cognitive behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, and motivational interviewing, Moynihan is also well-versed in teaching others about safe intervention practices when it comes to handling residential and crisis services.

Moynihan holds a master’s degree in social work from The University of Tennessee in Knoxville.

Continuing Education Credit Hours:

OmniCare Institute partners with Omni Community Health to offer continuing education credit hours for completed courses. Omni Community Health has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP No. 6894. Programs that do not qualify for NBCC credit are clearly identified. Omni Community Health is solely responsible for all aspects of the programs.
