Event description

Description

Terrorism is not a new phenomenon; it has existed in various forms throughout history. Despite this, it still presents a challenge to scholars and policymakers alike. Though the label terrorism is invoked frequently, there is little consensus about:

  • a reliable definition

  • its causes

  • how it spreads

  • how to prevent it

The Global Terrorism Database is an open-source publicly available database based on a published methodology containing over 180,000 records of terrorist events from 1970-2017. Using this data, we can explore issues around terrorism and discover new insights into the fundamental questions surrounding terrorism.

Light refreshments will be served at 6.30pm in P419 and the lecture will commence at 7.00pm. Registrations closes on September 15th at 11.30PM.
