Description

Transgender Issues in the Workplace, Sponsored by Cozen O'Connor

Keeping up with this evolving area of workplace law can be daunting for employers. This presentation will provide up-to-date information on issues ranging from bathroom use to workplace harassment. We will also discuss developing policies in this area.

Presenters: Brian Balonick, Cozen O'Connor, Peter Ennis, Cozen O'Connor, and Terry Roberts, American Eagle Outfitters

Brian Balonick, a member of Cozen O’Connor’s Labor and Employment Department, advises his clients in all aspects of labor and employment law, including traditional labor, employment discrimination, and trade secret litigation. He helps clients avoid litigation by developing preventive strategies to remain in compliance with labor, employment, and wage and hour laws. He provides on-site training programs to assist employers in creating an issue-free workplace. When employers find themselves facing employment litigation, Brian has assisted them in any area involving workplace disputes. He also has experience prosecuting restrictive covenant agreements and trade secret cases on behalf of employers.

Peter Ennis, a member of Cozen O’Connor’s Labor and Employment Department, represents employers before state and federal courts and agencies involving such claims as sexual harassment, race, sex, age and disability discrimination, wrongful discharge, breaches of covenants not to compete, cases arising under the Fair Labor Standards Act and ERISA, and various types of injunction proceedings. Peter has also handled many labor arbitrations and unfair labor practice charges involving a broad range of contract interpretation and disciplinary issues. His practice includes counseling employers on such diverse personnel-related issues as compliance with discrimination laws, hiring, evaluating and discharging employees, drug and alcohol testing, developing record-keeping and personnel policies and employee handbooks, pay practices and employee benefits, negotiating and administering collective bargaining agreements, and health and safety issues. He is also responsible for advising employers of their affirmative action obligations, if any, under federal and state law.

Terry Roberts is the Associate General Counsel of American Eagle Outfitters, Inc., a publicly-traded global specialty retailer with more than 1,000 stores and nearly 40,000 associates. He is responsible for the company’s strategic initiatives and he provides employment law support to the entire company (stores, distribution centers, and corporate locations), which operates in all 50 states and internationally. Additionally, he supports business partners with code of conduct, code of ethics, and compliance-related investigations. Before working at American Eagle, Terry was Senior Employment Law Counsel at FedEx Ground. Terry received his B.A. in Political Science with honors from the University of Miami and his J.D. with honors from The University of Texas School of Law.
