Description

Review of Supreme Court IP Cases, Sponsored by The Webb Law Firm

The Supreme Court has recently addressed a wide range of topics related to Intellectual Property. Congress is also working to update legislation which would significantly impact patent laws and practices. The program will provide a comprehensive update on these developments. This is a dynamic period in the world of intellectual property, and the members will undoubtedly appreciate being kept current.

Presenters: John W. McIlvaine, and Christian D. Ehret, The Webb Law Firm

John W. McIlvaine III is an Intellectual Property attorney with extensive experience in patent procurement, patent enforcement, trademark registration, trademark enforcement, licensing, and litigation. His practice involves a substantial amount of international intellectual property law, and he counsels a wide range of clients – from individual inventors to Fortune 500 companies. John is actively involved with IP programs and initiatives, sharing expertise as a community leader, educator, and author. He is a certified arbitrator and an Approved Early Neutral Evaluator for Intellectual Property cases pending in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania. He has served as a patent-law expert witness in litigation matters and is co-chair of the local court’s IP Advisory Committee.

John has published articles on IP topics and was named in 2004 as an adjunct professor with the University of Pittsburgh School of Law. He is committed to enlightening students on “patent litigation,” a subject of growing interest to the region’s legal and business professionals. His teaching role is a natural extension of his efforts, and those of The Webb Law Firm, to promote Pittsburgh as a region of innovation where patent stakeholders can litigate their disputes. During 2004, John and patent attorneys from several area law firms and corporations worked together, in cooperation with the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania, to draft a state-of-the-art set of rules and procedures for the conduct of patent litigation.

He has also been ranked and honored (2009-2010) by the legal directory Chambers USA America’s Leading Lawyers for Business, which has characterized him as a “stand-up guy and an impressive attorney.”

Christian Ehret is an intellectual property attorney with a background in software and web development. Christian’s practice includes patent, copyright, and trademark matters, including prosecution, litigation, and consultation. In particular, Christian has experience working with legal issues relating to software, networks, and other technologies including encryption, video and image processing, mobile applications, network security, e-commerce, virtualization, video games, casino games, graphical user interfaces, and various electrical and mechanical devices. Prior to becoming an attorney, Christian was a software and web developer, focusing on e-commerce and interactive media. While in law school, Christian participated in national copyright law moot court competitions and served as a staff writer and editor for Jurist. Christian graduated cum laude from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law.
