Event description
Founders of HeyGirl! will share how they came to be, the struggles they have faced, and what makes them a sustainable collective.

About this Event

HeyGirl! is a Collective whose mission it is to empower young women of color to lead as critical thinkers and problem solvers of challenges in their communities through the lens of social entrepreneurship. Founding members Maurlehna Walles of Equity Design Constance Barnes of Unmasked Edu, Latanya DeVaughn of Bronx Bound Books, LaShawnna Harris of SharEDtalent, and Makeda Gershenson of Good Better Best are all graduates of the Communitas Ventures Accelerator Program. After graduating from the Accelerator Program the founders of HeyGirl! organically banded together to form a collective. Their story is exemplary of a successful accountability partnership, which grew to become its own organizational entity.

Founders of HeyGirl! will share how they came to be, the struggles they have faced, and what makes them a sustainable collective. They will share experiences and strategies for assessing the viability of accountability partners and executing your mission. Participants will walk away with the document, Suggestions When Looking For an Accountability Partner to refer to when building your tribe! This event will be a panel discussion with a live Q+A portion.

In partnership with New Women Space this conversation will be moderated by Communitas America, a non-profit organization based in the Bronx that supports entrepreneurs who want to create social change in their communities by building impact ecosystems in under-resourced communities.
