Description

Down Syndrome Association North Bay in conjunction with Sonoma SELPA are pleased to offer "Accommodations and Modifications in the General Ed Classroom for Students with Down Syndrome and other Academic and Behavioral needs."

Are you an educator working with a student who has Down syndrome or other academic or behavior concern who spends at least a portion of his/her day in a general setting? Do you need help figuring out how to modify the curriculum and activities for a student working below grade level?

Laurie Hawley, Education Director for DSCBA will cover the following topics:

  • Why Inclusion?
  • Setting the stage for success by using visuals to support transitions and behavior
  • Utilizing assistive technology
  • Universal Design for Learning
  • Modifying from a strengths-based approach
  • Reducing cognitive demands
  • Using peer supports
  • Lots of practical examples of how to modify

Who Should Attend?

Special and General Educators, SLPs, Paraeducators, Aides, PTs, OTs, Special Ed Administrators, Behaviorists, Principals, Psychologists, Parents and anyone else supporting students. THIS INFORMATION IS VALID FOR ALL STUDENTS, NOT JUST THOSE WITH DOWN SYNDROME.

NOTE- THIS CLASS IS FOR ALLGRADE LEVELS & YOU DO NOT HAVE TO HAVE A STUDENT WITH DOWN SYNDROME TO ATTEND

Immediately after the 2-hour class, we will discuss inclusion practices in Sonoma County at the CAC meeting from 6:30-8! We encourage you to join us!
