Event description

Access Manhattan: Services for Better Communities is designed to help New Yorkers learn more about available city benefits, resources and services.

April 19: How to file discrimination or harassment complaints.
Representatives from the NYC Human Rights Commission will present on the topic of discrimination and harassment. It’s illegal and you have rights! Come learn how to file complaints and appeals. Wednesday, April 19, 2017, from 6 – 8 pm at my Northern Manhattan Office, 431 West 125th St.

April 24: What happens if an immigration officer stops you?
Do you know your rights? Do you know what to do or say? Do you know who to call? What will happen to your children or spouse? Do you have a plan in place in case you’re taken away? Come get the answer to all these questions and more at this workshop on immigration rights cosponsored with the Northern Manhattan Improvement Corp., Immigrant Justice Corp., and MFY Legal Services. Monday, April 24, 2017, from 6 – 8 pm at my Northern Manhattan Office, 431 West 125th St.

April 25: Health awareness workshop.
Too many neighborhoods have higher-than-average—and preventable—health-related problems. That’s why I’m co-sponsoring, with the NYC Dept. of Health and Mental Hygiene, this workshop that will teach steps to healthier living. What can you do to lower your cholesterol? How can you prevent diabetes? There will be a cooking demonstration and other news you can use!

April 26: Workshop on what to do when you get a summons (at Adam Clayton Powell State Office Building)
I am cosponsoring another Administrative law Court Community Education Service (ACCES) forum on what to do when you get a summons and must navigate through the Administrative Law Court. Wednesday, April 26, 6 – 8 pm, Powell State Office Building, 2nd Floor Art Gallery, 163 West 125th St. For more info, contact Alassane Diop: or (212) 531-1609.

April 27: Wills and lawyers—who needs them?
Come to a free presentation by Volunteers of Legal Service on health care advance directives, powers of attorney, wills, and burial planning and the services that connect eligible seniors with information relating to what are called “life-planning documents.” Thursday, April 27, 2017, from 1 – 3 pm at my Northern Manhattan Office, 431 West 125 St.
