Description

Join the Access Fund-Jeep Conservation Team & Yosemite Climbing Program for a professional climbing stewardship workshop in one of our country's most iconic climbing destinations - Yosemite Valley. This event will provide land managers, local climbing organization leaders and volunteer advocates with a sophisticated set of tools to evaluate and mitigate impacts across the entire climbing system. This unique 4-day event will feature professional training sessions in the classroom and in the field.

Where - Yosemite National Park, CA

When - Friday, May 26, 2017 to Monday, May 29, 2017 - MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND

What - Participants will gain knowledge and national context in: climbing trends, assessing conditions at climbing areas, understanding climbers as a unique user group, comprehensive planning, developing and implementating long-term resource protection plans and management decision making. Field sessions will highlight specific construction techniques & skills, visualizing climbing use patterns, local area considerations, controlling user flow, water dispersion and actually getting dirty.

Details: This is a FREE workshop, including FREE PARK ADMISSION, however participants are responsible for their own travel, food, camping supply expenses, etc. FREE CAMPING will be available for all attendees in Yosemite Valley starting Thursday, May 25 to Monday, May 29. Other lodging options will be up to attendees to arrange. A light breakfast of snacks with coffee will be provided on Friday & Saturday. All other meals are up to individual attendees. Participants should plan on bringing water, sunscreen, sturdy shoes, work gloves, weather appropriate clothing. Field days will be spent away from vehicles so lunches should be pre-planned.

Its a packed schedule, but we'll be sure to end each day on time, ensuring attendees have some opportunity to explore Yosemite Valley or go climbing each day! Here's a glimpse of the overall schedule:

Friday, May 26; 9-3pm: Land Manager focused: Strategies for climbing stewardship from a national context and climbing management decision paradigms.

Saturday, May 27; 8-3pm: Climbing Advocate focused: Yosemite National Park insight, climbing specific stewardship, strategies for improving areas & field techniques.

Sunday, May 28; 8:30-1pm:Case studies in climbing stewardship initiatives, climbing area assessment & strategy session.

Monday, May 29; 9-2pm: Climber access improvement skill development.
