Description

The panel will discuss the current educational system in Iran discussing two perspectives; academic freedom and right to education.

Topics:
- From demonization to medicalization: Gender identity and sexual orientation in the curriculum of health professionals in Iran (Raha Bahreini) - The boundaries of academic freedom in theological methodology of educational system after the Islamic revolution in Iran (Amir Yahya Ayatollahi) - University in Iran: site of politics and logics of exclusion (Omid Montazeri)

Moderator: Kiaa Parsa Aalipour

The following speakers will take part in the panel discussion:
Raha Bahreini | a Human Rights Lawyer and Amnesty International Researcher on Iran.
Her research and advocacy work has focused on a wide range of human rights issues including the death penalty, freedom of expression and association, torture, right to health, discrimination against women and minorities, gender identity and sexual orientation rights, and transitional justice.


Amir Yahya Ayatollahi | a PHD student of Humanities at the University of Vechta.
Graduated from the Islamic seminary at Qom and received his B.A. in Philosophy from Mofid University of Qom and his M.A. in Western Philosophy from the Shahid Beheshti University of Tehran. He’s written on topics such as the Iranian political history, criticism of the contemporary intellectual discourses and political philosophy.

Omid Motazeri | journalist and victimised by the educational system on Iran.
After releasing from prison, he was banned from continuing his education and writing in Journals and had to leave Iran. Now, he is currently working as a full-time journalist and editor in Radio Zamaneh, a multi-platform media that has a special focus on human rights and social justice.

Kiaa Parsa Aalipour
An Iranian-Dutch citizen working as a Journalist, Media Producer and Human Rights Defender. With an extensive experience in communication and media world, currently, he is the managing director of a Media Production company. Also, he is the spokesperson for the human rights organization ‘Article 18’.
