Event description

Description

Participants will explore a variety of ways to incorporate academic discourse and writing into their classrooms while incorporating historical thinking skills, social studies practices, and the unifying themes of social studies into students’ learning experiences. Participants will explore and practice strategies to strengthen students’ conceptual and content understandings as well as self-reflection/assessment techniques. In addition, participants will discuss how to plan for and implement ways to build student agency and engagement. Participants will have time to plan and share with colleagues. Participants are asked to bring a current/future unit of study and (at least two) samples of student work with them for the planning session.

Note: Participants will learn about the changes to the Global History and Geography II Regents and how the work they do in the primary grades supports the shift in how students demonstrate their conceptual understandings and content knowledge of the social studies. Participants will explore ways to build students’ foundational skills of thinking critically like Historians and Global citizens.
