Event description

Description

This is the first worldwide academic conference on the topic of Family Estrangement.

We've invited researchers from around the world to submit abstracts for presentations on their work relevant to increasing the understanding of relationships between family members aged 18+ who have a distant and/or inactive relationship with one another in terms of contact, communication and/or quality.

Researchers will come from a broad range of disciplinary backgrounds (psychology, sociology, education, family studies, communications studies, historians, social work, etc.).

The 2 day conference will feature a range of talks, discussions, and networking opportunities with experts, researchers and leaders in the field of family estrangement. Dr Kristina Scharp, Assistant Professor of Communication at The University of Washington, will deliver a keynote presentation.

We hope the conference will inspire more research in the field, allowing for the formation of national and international collaborations.

Information about the organisers:
This conference is organised by Dr Lucy Blake, Senior Lecturer in Children Young People and Families at Edge Hill University, Becca Bland, CEO of Stand Alone, Professor Yvette Taylor, School of Education, University of Strathclyde. It is not externally funded, and is convened by Stand Alone, a small charity working with people experiencing family estrangement.
