Description
Located at the corner of South Van Ness and 22nd Street in the Mission, this one-time mortuary has lain fallow since 1999. Now, a local group is working to convert this ornate, one-of-a-kind building into Urban Putt: a miniature golf course, restaurant and bar. Led by first-time restaurateur Steve Fox, architect Matt Hollis, and industrial designers Anne Mayoral and Christopher Myers, the revived space and 18-hole course will draw its inspiration from the building’s Spanish Colonial Revival heritage, and from San Francisco itself. Come by the space before it opens to the public to play through the San Francisco 1906 earthquake hole and the fanciful Transamerica Tower windmill hole, and hear how the team is bringing their quixotic vision to reality.
