LEAH FISCHER: DevOps Engineer co-op

Leah is an international student from Italy studying Mathematics at UBC, and is currently a co-op on Absolute's DevOps team. Leah has been part of a few software teams while at school, including Thunderbots, a robotics club that builds autonomous soccer-playing robots, and AeroDesign, a student-run team that builds and flies small planes for competitions. She seeks to continuously challenge herself and step out of her comfort zone, whether it be in coding or spending three days cooking ramen. Leah is excited to be talking about "The Daily Life of a DevOps Engineer" and share her knowledge and experience at Women Who Code Vancouver Meetup.

DEB LAROCHE: Senior technical writer

Absolute has employed me as a senior technical writer for close to eight years now. I have 22 years’ experience writing technical documents exclusively for the software industry. I’m passionate about my profession and love a challenge! Initially I was hired at Absolute on contract to write the document suite for Computrace Enterprise, which you may recognize as the DDS On-Premise product. From mid-2011 through late-2013, I was the lead writer on the old Customer Center and Absolute Manage products. Janet, also a senior technical writer, is responsible for the online help system delivered with Absolute and she knows that product inside out! Currently, I write the public-facing API docs (until we automate that process), and numerous supplemental and security documents as needed, which means I work closely and often with Shannon Ryan and our SEs. I’ve relied on the SEs to let me in on what our customers currently see as our top 3 features. I’m a sister, cousin, niece, aunt, mother, grandma, friend, and girlfriend. I have an eclectic taste in music. I love being anywhere near the ocean, nature walks of all kinds, gardening, and definitely cooking. I sketch and paint for my own fun, write other content, and have a few book ideas in the planning stages to write and publish eventually. Yoga, meditation, and Reiki are several other past-times I enjoy.
