Event description
Cultivate is Abilities Dance Boston's 4th annual performance led by Executive & Artistic Director Ellice Patterson.

About this Event

Cultivate is Abilities Dance Boston's 4th annual performance led by Executive & Artistic Director Ellice Patterson. This performance highlights our company dancers under disabled female and non-binary choreographers (Louisa Mann, Toby Macnutt, Leslie Taub, and Ellice Patterson) along with disabled and non-disabled composers/musicians (Director of Music Andrew Choe, Robert Gross, and David Nabb) from across the country. Audio descriptions have been created and edited by our Editor Amber Pearcy. Our Saturday sensory-sensitive matinee includes our community partner Our Space Our Place (an after-school program for blind/low-vision youth in the Boston Public Schools).

Thank you for your purchase of tickets to our 4th annual production, Cultivate! As we continue to ensure our performances become more inclusive, we want to ask you to help ensure our performances are welcome to all.

Please note our Friday evening performance runs 8 pm - 10 pm and our Saturday matinee performance is 2 pm - 3:30 pm. Each performance ends with Q&A with the choreographers and director. There will be a 15 minute intermission for both shows.

Our Saturday performance will be sensory sensitive (no scent, reduced volume, minimal light changes, space to leave as needed, and anything else we can provide for you). We’re asking audiences to please refrain from scented lotions and fragrances to respect those with sensory-sensitivities , especially in our Saturday show. Our Saturday performance only will feature our community partner Our Space Our Place (blind/low-vision youth in Boston Public Schools).

Audio descriptions (words that explain the movement happening on stage for blind/low-vision audiences) are incorporated into the music so that all can hear the descriptions for both performances and have as close to the same experience as possible. CART (live captioning for deaf/hard of hearing audiences) will be provided at both performances.

The Multicultural Arts Center is wheelchair-accessible. Please note on your ticket if you need space for wheelchairs, other mobility aids, etc.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out to us at abilitiesdanceboston@gmail.com or 781-465-4032 if there is something we can provide to make the performance as accessible as possible!
